Relational database software developer Sybase Inc has moved into the Japanese market with the conclusion of a distributorship agreement with Nippon Timeshare Co Ltd, a local software house: Sybase already supports a number of different processing environments such as DEC VMS, IBM RT under AIX, OS2 and Unix and has sold 500 licences worldwide, and Nippon TimeShare will target the product at developers of systems for use in the financial, securities, banking, manufacturing and distribution and telecommunications industries; Japanese prices for the development system start at around $60,000 and sales of 30 licences per year are the initial target; the development effort to convert the database system into Kanji is already under way.
