Swiss technology concern Distefora Holding AG has acquired IS Internet Services GmbH & Co, a German internet service provider (ISP) based in Hamburg, for an unspecified sum.
Distefora said IS has an estimated 25% share of the business market for internet access and service provision in Germany, adding that it intends to merge the new acquisition with its 74%-owned UK ISP Netdirect Internet, from London, into a larger entity to be called European Internet Services (EIS). A spokesperson for the group said the combined offering will now boast some 200 points of presence (PoPs).
Meanwhile Distefora majority shareholder, Alexander Falk, says the group is now considering the possibility of floating EIS on the Neuer Markt small cap exchange in Frankfurt.
Distefora is a holding company with a group of hi-tech interests. Its four divisions, all of which operate primarily in Germany, comprise automotive navigation systems, cable TV, internet content provision for the short messaging (SMS) market, and ISPs.
