The Superbase Inc subsidiary of Computer Concepts Corp has announced Superbase95, a new object-based version of its visual application development relational database management system for Windows. Superbase has also signed an agreement for its relational database software with Interfunction Ltd of North Yorkshire. Interfunction has placed an initial order of about $500,000 to handle the Superbase95 for Windows upgrade business in the UK. It will work with Superbase on its upgrade and distribution strategy for the European market and provide technical support for UK users. Interfunction will help distribute Superbase95 into some other European channels. The product has learning tools to smooth transition from procedural coding to object-based development, communications support and can run in 4Mb of memory. It is interoperable with other applications via OLE 2.0, Open Data Base Connectivity, VIM and MAPI. Superbase95 has implemented an object model which supports around 70 object types, including reports, communications and mail. Super Basic Language has been extended to include a new object-based language, Object SBL, which is similar to Visual Basic, but includes additional features, such as event prioritisation and no limits to control on forms. It supports 18 image types including JPEG, FIF and Kodak PhotoCD enabling a variety of image types and image compression technologies to be incorporated into visual database applications. Integrated communications and mail objects support enables the incorporation of real-time feeds from external devices, such as bar code readers and video cameras, into database applications. Superbase95 also has Dynamic Data Exchange and Dynamic Link Library support. Prior Superbase applications do not need to be converted to run in Superbase95. Superbase95 is available now and costs $150 until next March.
