Sun is re-branding McData’s professional services as part of its data migration services suite, specifically the migration from ESCON to FICON mainframe to storage links.

McData’s gained its professional services organization – which employs around 150 consultants – when it bought CNT Corp last year, and McData intends to both expand this business, and raise its profile. The SAN switch and director maker said it plans to announce the names of other tier-one suppliers who are already re-branding and sub-contracting McData professional services.

Last month Brocade Communications Systems Inc announced its intention to buy McData. One of the attractions of McData for Brocade is its established professional services business. Brocade itself has only this year begun to attempt to build its own PS organization.

The Sun ESCON-to-FICON migration service comprises three phases – initial workshop, architectural assessment, and implementation. McData said its consultants will take the lead role in the important architectural phase.
