Two intelligent workstations, and two new displays for the System/36 and AS/400 market have been announced by Memorex Telex International NV. The company claims that the new 7006 workstation is the most powerful and highly integrated 808X microprocessor-based MS-DOS micro on the market today, and points to the placing of VGA video support on the system board, rendering an additional slot available for system growth. The 7006 is based on a 8086 microprocessor, comes with 640Kb RAM, expandable to 4Mb on the motherboard, and operates at interchangeable 8MHz or 10MHz clock speed. A standard 3.5 720Kb disk drive can be supplemented by two 5.25 and one 3.5 drive bays, to allow installation of a variety of storage devices. The 7006 costs $1,495, and is available now. The 7025 workstation is an 80286-based system, for use as a stand-alone system, or for networking applications. It comes with a 3.5 1.44Mb disk drive and 40Mb hard disk, 512Kb – expandable to 8Mb – of RAM, and incorporates a number of components usually placed in slots, on the motherboard. These include a VGA graphics adaptor, an AT fixed disk interface, one parallel and two serial ports, and IBM PS/2-compatible keyboard and mouse interfaces. 16-bit and 8-bit expansion slots can also be used to house additional communications boards or adaptor cards. The company also says that an 80287 maths co-processer can be included to boost speeds for numeric-intensive operations. The 7025 costs $2,000, and will be available in August. The two new displays are the 1476A/G monochrome station and the 1197F2 colour station. The former supports 122-key, 83-key, and 102-key keyboard types, a 122-key data entry keyboard, and a new 104-key keyboard. The company claims that the new keyboard supports the 24 command keys and functions in exactly the the same fashion as the standard 122-key keyboard, but has a footprint that is 3.2 smaller. The 1476A/G also has a multi-vendor printer port, which allows attachment of non-Memorex printers. The station is available in green or amber, costs $2,000, and will ship in August. The 1197F2 is a seven-colour station which includes 132-column support, and is based on the Memorex Telex 1197C2. It provides concurrent support for one printer and two host sessions; local screen printing with print trim feature, and the multi-vendor printer port come as standard features. The 1197F2 will be available in August, at a list price of $2,000.
