Commenting on some pretty dismal third quarter figures, Storage Technology Corp says it expects merger expenses and operating costs to cause a loss for the final quarter of the year as well. The one-time expenses are associated with its acquisition of Amperif Corp, operating costs are associated with development of Amperif technology. The company also announced that beta shipments of its new Iceberg mass storage system will begin in December if all goes well in November, and said that Geoffroy de Belloy, executive vice-president in charge of European Economic Community relationships and European alliances and Harris Ravine, executive vice-president for mid-range markets, where the XL/Datacomp acquisition has been dragging down the numbers, will leave the company to pursue other interests. Ravine had been regarded as chairman Ryal Poppa’s right hand man, one analyst commented.
