Paris-based start-up Step One SA, with its dynamic, automatic Web page publishing software of the same name, announced at IT Comdex that it has reached a partnership agreement with Lotus Development Corp, in which Lotus will integrate Step One into Domino. The two companies will also collaborate on marketing. Lotus was apparently very enthusiastic last year when it saw a demonstration of what StepOne could do for Domino (CI No 3,169). Step One allows you to automatically publish on an Intranet any information appearing on your screen, in a manner that is dynamic and reusable, and independent of the source application, says Christophe Cremer, Step One managing director. Specifically, the software will accommodate information from applications including Baan, Business Objects, Cognos, Comshare, MFG Pro, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, Word, Excel and Lotus 1.2.3. Each user can also integrate information published by Step One into their own desktop application with a simple copy/paste command. The technology thus allows corporations to make best use of their Intranets by decentralizing the publication of information and allowing all users to reuse information. The StepOne product comprises a software for information capture workstations, with three capture modes, an NT server component (36Mb memory requirement and 50Mb hard disk) and a Windows-based visualization component (approximately 500Kb). Created in 1995, Step One has 17 employees in France and has been present in the US market since last September. The product has been chosen by French banks BNP and CCF, JP Morgan and Lotus itself.
