Santa Clara, California-based Specom Technologies Corp has announced the Internet VideoPhone for Windows95, a 32-bit videoconferencing software application said to provide real-time audio communications and full color live video over the Internet. The system, designed for leased line and ISDN connections, is based on Specom’s proprietary VisionCodec software compression algorithm and Multi-Channel Transmission Protocol. Users can type a message, send a high-resolution image captured from a scanner or video source, transfer files, capture remote images or send images of any Windows-based document. It requires a minimum 14.4Kbps modem and, says Specom, can achieve up to 25 frames per second image quality. Internet VideoPhone includes loca l and remote video windows that can be expanded in three sizes. A whiteboard application enables the 4ser to chat, draw, erase, transfer files, do still frame high resolution video captures and capture remote images. Internet VideoPhone will ship this month for $70. Other options include Internet VideoPhone with a video capture board at $200, and the Internet VideoPhone with digital color camera at $250.
