Sony Corp and Texas Instruments Inc, partnered with Fujitsu Ltd and Hitachi Ltd on development of high-definition television chips, have lifted the veil on one piece of work that they are progressing. The two said they are working together to develop a single-chip serial video processor to enhance picture quality, with a Texas part developed in 1990 as the starting point. The single chip microprocessor is designed to adjust colour, tone and picture clarity quickly, replacing typically dozens of circuits. The partners say that the new chip could be applied to the generality of audiovisual products including high-definition television or multi-media products, and that they have been working on it for about a year. No word on when it might be ready.
