The drives will be available in a number of devices, including home players and computers. The first of these will be the cumbersomely titled BDP-S1 Blu-ray disc player and Vaio’s new RC desktop computer. Sony is suggesting a price tag of around $1,000 for the player and $2,300 for the computer.
Sony went on say that it would be shipping 25GB writable and rewritable discs in April, with pricing of $20 and $25 respectively. 50GB versions will follow and will retail for $48 and $60. While high, it is thought the prices will fall steadily as users increasingly pick up the format.
