Having set the current standard for floppy disk drives with the 3.5 form factor, Sony Corp is hoping to achieve the highly unlikely feat of setting the standard for the next generation as well. The company is preparing a 2 floppy drive, the PDD 150, initially specifically for use with NEC Corp’s PC 9800 personal computer family. The $430 drive comes with integrated controller, data transfer rates claimed to match those of a hard disk, error rates comparable with Compact Disk, and unformatted capacity of 1Mb. The PDD 150 measures 1.6 by 3.1 by 5.3 deep and weighs 1 lb 1 oz.
