Sony Corp has now confirmed that it will manufacture a large part of the notebook version of the Macintosh promised by Apple Computer Inc – and is helping with its design. The new machine is expected to offer functionality similar to that of the Macintosh Classic. It has been reported that the machine will have 40Mb disk, built-in modem and weigh about 6 lbs; the price is put at under $2,500. Sony is expected to make much of the machine until Apple can upgrade its plants to handle it. Sony said that it will not market its own version of the machine. Apple is also expected to add two higher-end laptop computers.
