Sony Corp says it has developed technology to improve the resolution of lasers used to read and write magneto-optical disks, making it possible to increase the storage capacity per square inch sixfold. The company says that using it, a 5.25 platter could store 4G-bits of data and that a 20-fold increase over today’s capacidies can be achieved if higher frequency lasers come along.
