The new company is to be called Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, and will begin operations on October 1, 2001, subject to regulatory approval.

The joint venture proposed by Ericsson and Sony on August 28, to form a new company to specialize in mobile communications, was ratified at a meeting in Stockholm on September 11.
