Sony is planning to cut 1,000 jobs from its Swedish mobile unit based in Lund, as part of job cuts announced last month.
Previously, the company announced its plans to axe 2,100 employees globally, which is about 30% of its staff, mainly from its mobile unit.
According to reports, Sony lost nearly $1.2bn in the fourth quarter of 2014.
The Associated Press cited Sony spokeswoman Kajsa Petersson as saying that the company has already cut 800 jobs in China, in addition to the R&D centre in Lund which employs 2,200 people.
Sony retained the unit in Lund and it is now being used by the company for research and development.
Agence France-Presse cited Sony Mobile Sweden CEO Bengt Arne Molin as saying: "We had a meeting with all of our employees where the CEO (Kazuo Hirai) presented the structural changes from April 1.
"Lund will play an important role in our future business especially within software, systems engineering and customer support."
