Intel Corp’s 3D Katmai graphics instructions, otherwise known as MMX2 (CI No 3,327, 3,406) are still supposed to be secret at the moment, but Electronic Engineering Times has found a list of Katmai instructions and opcodes on the web by software expert Clive Turvey. The Katmai NI (for new instructions) list, which Turvey claims to have culled from an application program publicly posted on the Intel web site, includes a complement of add, compare divide, prefetch and move operations, said the paper, along with a set of registers, dubbed XMM0 through XMM7, which Turvey suspects are a set of floating point registers distinct from the MM0-7 integer registers.
