Google’s video-sharing website YouTube has been blocked in Pakistan and Bangladesh after the site refused to remove the trailer of an ‘anti Islamic’ movie called "Innocence of Muslims" which has sparked violence in Muslim countries.
The Saudi Press Agency said Saudi Arabia will block the video unless it’s removed.
The Pakistan Telecom Authority has blocked 934 anti-Islam websites on the Internet and more than 650 video postings, or URLs, on YouTube.
Before now, Google had blocked the trailer in five countries that include Egypt, Libya, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
The trailer of the movie, which reported to have shown Prophet Muhammed in poor light, has led to protests at US embassies and consulates in various countries that include Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
In May this year, Pakistan authorities blocked Twitter after fears of blasphemous content being circulated on social media sites. The site was blocked for eight hours before access was restored to users.
In 2010, Bangladesh blocked access to Facebook until the social network censored anti-Islamic content.
