Trend Micro has released a new version of PortalProtect that combines web threat protection, content-filtering and data loss prevention and supports Microsoft SharePoint 2010 platform.

According to Trend Micro, the ProtalProtect 2.0 is backed by the Smart Protection Network infrastructure which scans, filters and correlates emails, web sites and files every day, and then leverages that data to identify and respond to emerging threats. In addition, it has the ability to detect and block unwanted web content posted to SharePoint environments.

PortalProtect adds content-filtering for both file and web content, helping to ensure that offensive material does not appear on SharePoint. It includes pre-built data loss prevention with templates that track personal identifiable information (PII) like social security or account numbers, the company said.

In addition, the new version also facilitates to limit content-filtering policies with Active Directory or SharePoint users and groups.

David Lieberman, director of messaging business at Trend Micro, said: Over 60% of U.S. companies are using SharePoint either to build portals, team sites, share files, discussion forums, wikis and blogs – and they’re sharing that information both internally and externally with their partners and customers.

“But when external users are involved, the risk of infection and data theft increases significantly, as does the possibility of data loss. So we raised protection in this newest version of Trend Micro PortalProtect for the SharePoint community that wants and needs stronger protection against malware and data loss.
