Sunbelt Software, a provider of Windows security software, has unveiled a new upgrade to its CounterSpy endpoint antispyware product line.

Based on its version 4.0 technology platform, CounterSpy 4.0 offers consumers the same protection and enhancements as the recently released Vipre Antivirus 4.0, while CounterSpy Enterprise 4.0 includes a new management console and multi-site tiering model as found in Vipre Enterprise 4.0, the company said.

According to Sunbelt, the CounterSpy includes major functionality upgrades found in Vipre 4.0, without features specific to antivirus detection and remediation. It is compatible with both 32 and 64 bit version of Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.

The company said that the new CounterSpy 4.0 includes enhancements such as support for removable drives; support for 64-bit environments, including a 64-bit boot cleaner and 64-bit rootkit scanner; and support for Mozilla Firefox Scan Extensions.

The new multi-site management and role-based access control functionality provides system administrators and managed services providers the ability to manage medium and large-scale infrastructures with multiple offices and locations. Multiple sites can be controlled from one central console by tiering through granular role-based access control or multi-site configuration, the company said.

Alex Eckelberry, CEO of Sunbelt Software, said: For those customers who are simply looking to run an advanced antispyware tool alongside an existing antivirus solution, the upgrades to CounterSpy make it a very attractive alternative to the bloat-heavy products on the market.

“Taking advantage of the proprietary next-generation technology found in Vipre, CounterSpy 4.0 and CounterSpy Enterprise 4.0 offer the same high performance and low resource requirements while still allowing the user the flexibility of an easy-to-manage interface.
