Internet phone service Skype has released its online calling app for iPads.
iPad users can use the new app to make free voice and video calls to other Skype users over both Wi-Fi and 3G wireless connections.
The app also allows instant messaging and SMS messaging. The app also allows users to make use of both the front and the rear camera during video calls to show their chat partners and their surroundings.
Skype consumer product management chief said Rick Osterloh, "The large iPad screen is perfect for bringing Skype video calls to life, in either landscape or portrait view, and because it is on the iPad, Skype video calls can be made at the beach, in a car or even lying on a couch."
The new app can be downloaded at Apple’s iTunes store.
In May, Microsoft reportedly closed a $8.5bn deal to acquire the internet telephone service provider Skype.
On July 6, social networking company Facebook teamed up with Skype to offer free video calls to users.
