UK-based open source enterprise search vendor Simplexo has launched a new search platform aimed at the public sector, which aims to enable central and local government departments to simultaneously search multiple disparate data sources across the organisation on demand.
According to Simplexo, it is common in the public sector for organisations to store large amounts of data across diverse systems and applications. This can make it difficult to track down necessary information when it is needed. Regulations such as the Freedom of Information act mean require information stored by government departments to be made available on request.
The ability to simultaneously search diverse data sources and present results in real-time should better enable local government and public sector organisations to comply with this sort of legislation, Simplexo says.
Simplexo’s technology searches through live and archived email, Office documents, databases, SharePoint and other content management systems as well as other applications. Using a single click from within Outlook or a browser-based interface, results are displayed in real-time via a consolidated de-duplicated list.
The new platform also aims to improve security in the public sector by reducing the chances or a data loss or leak. Remote public sector workers are provided with secure access to central confidential enterprise information sources, so even if a laptop is lost or stolen all data remains fully protected, the company said.
Once the Simplexo connection is closed, no data is left on the laptop and during a search the user only sees information they are allowed to. The product is designed to MoD security levels (AED 256).
Alistair Handyside, CEO, Simplexo, said: “It’s imperative for public sector organisations to retrieve accurate information quickly and securely – both to provide public services effectively, and to remain compliant with regulatory requirements. Simplexo is a low-cost no-risk solution to information access that cuts no security corners.”
