Samsung was the top handset manufacturer with the US market share of 23.5%, while RIM led among smartphone platforms with 37.3% market share in the US in September 2010, according to data released by comScore.
The firm’s data for three months data ending September 2010 shows that Samsung was followed by LG with a market share of 21.1%, Motorola with 18.4%, RIM with 9.3% share and Nokia with 7.4% market share.
During the same period, Motorola’s market share was down by 2.1 percentage points to 18.4% from 20.5% between June 2010 and September 2010, while Samsung gained a market share of 0.7 percentage points, RIM gained by 0.5, while Nokia fell by 0.7 percent, respectively
RIM was the leading mobile smartphone platform in the US with 37.3% market share of total US smartphone subscribers, falling 2.8 percentage points versus the prior period ended.
Apple was at second spot with 24.3% market share, followed by Google, Microsoft and Palm with 21.4%, 10% and 4.2% market share, respectively.
According to comScore, in an average month during June through September 2010 time period, 67% of US mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device, up 1.4 percentage points from three months prior.
Browsers were used by 35.1% of US mobile subscribers, up 2.2 percentage points, while subscribers who used downloaded applications made up 33.1%.
In addition, the firm found that 23.2% of mobile subscribers accessed social networking site or blog, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from 21.4% for three months ended September 2010.
