Samsung Telecommunications America and Samsung Electronics America have introduced the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 in the US.
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 measures 8.6mm in thickness and shares many other features and services with the Tab 10.1 including Samsung’s TouchWiz UX, which is a user interface that integrates with Android 3.1, Honeycomb, said the company.
The interface features magazine-like widget view; Mini Mode Tray for one-touch overlay access to commonly used applications; clipboard for advanced copy & paste functionality; indicator quick panel; and photo editor.
The new Galaxy Tab is built with a dual-core T250S processor, WXGA TFT display fortified by Gorilla Glass, and includes a 6,100 mAh battery.
Using Tab 8.9, users can access Samsung Media Hub; Samsung Music Hub, Samsung Readers Hub; Social Hub for social networking; and Google Mobile Services for accessing more than 250,000 applications on Android Market, Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps and Google Talk.
It features AllShare service that allows content transfer from DLNA-enabled devices; rear and front-facing cameras; Polaris Office for instant access to files; Swype for resizing the virtual keyboard; and mobile printing for printing documents and pictures wirelessly.
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 also features FindMyMobile, which allows a user to locate the device on a map, and track it live as it moves, remotely lock the device to prevent unauthorized access and delete personal information stored on the device, in case of theft.
The company said it also unveiled the Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0 that offer an entertainment experience without the need for cell service, in a choice of form factors that are pocketable.
The Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0 weigh 6.4 and 4.2 ounces, respectively.
The Galaxy Players are powered by Android 2.3.5, Gingerbread, complete with a new, streamlined user interface and are enabled with Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) connectivity for quick and easy access to online services and Web search.
The two devices are designed with front and rear cameras, and will support Samsung’s Media Hub content service in the future through a software update.
Samsung Mobile president Dale Sohn said these three additions to the Galaxy family of products are impressive examples of their commitment to offering consumers an unrivalled array of choices for entertainment and information on-the-go.
"People want their mobile device to fit their lifestyle and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Players offer unparalled power and portability to meet the widest consumer needs," Sohn said.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 will available for sale nationwide starting 2 October, while the Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0 will be available starting October 16.
