Microsoft UK’s current CEO Michel Van der Bel will step down on November 1 and will be replaced by Cindy Rose, a top executive from Vodafone.

Rose was the managing director of Vodafone’s Consumer Division, and has held senior positions at companies such as Virgin Media, Disney Interactive Media Group and The Walt Disney Company.

At Microsoft, Rose will take responsibility for the company’s entire product, service and support offerings throughout the UK, including its mobile and cloud products.

Commenting on Rose’s appointment, Microsoft International president Jean-Philippe Courtois said: "She brings a real strength in driving complex, customer-focused businesses and a deep understanding of the digital space.

"As we continue to transform as an organisation and support our customers’ digital transformation, Cindy’s experience will be invaluable."

Michel Van der Bel will now move into a new role, which is yet to be announced, and used Twitter to express his support for Rose’s appointment.

He said: "Really excited to congratulate Cindy Rose on joining Microsoft UK where she will officially take over from me on Nov 1st as UK CEO."

Commenting on her new role, Rose said: "I’m thrilled to be joining Microsoft and to be asked to lead the UK business at such an opportune moment in the company’s history and such an unprecedented moment in the country’s history."

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently said the company will continue to invest in the UK post-Brexit.

Speaking on CNBC, Nadella said: "When it comes to the UK, we’ve been there for 30 years and we’re going to continue to invest because it’s a huge market and a place which is pretty core to us. We’re a global company – 55 percent of our revenues are global – so what happens in Britain and around the globe matters a lot to us."

The company currently employs over 3,000 people in the UK and it accounts for 7% to 8% of Microsoft’s revenue.

Last November, Microsoft unveiled plans to deliver commercial cloud services from the UK.

The company is offering Microsoft Azure, Office 365 and Dynamics CRM Online from a new UK data centre region.
