Logicworks, a provider of private cloud hosting products, has revealed that it is working with LINBIT, a provider of redundant storage replication products, to develop a replication system for Logicworks’ customers.

The company claimed that LINBIT DRBD open source technology combined with an InfiniBand fabric from Mellanox will lower costs and make it possible to achieve enhanced levels of input/output (I/O) performance, leading to improved cloud-based storage management and disaster recovery capabilities.

LINBIT reportedly develops and supports DRBD, a storage replication technology commonly deployed in high-availability clusters. DRBD is expected to allow users to maintain full redundancy at the data level, while reducing the high costs associated with such configurations.

The companies will leverage InfiniBand technology, and the adoption of InfiniBand for the cloud-based system will provide Logicworks’ customers with the performance that is suited for hosting latency sensitive applications, Logicworks said.

Logicworks has been using DRBD over the years in its hosting business that has formed the core of its company. Based on the Linux operating system and maintained as open source software, the new product is said to offer customers enhanced service in the cloud.

John Monson, vice president of marketing at Mellanox, said: Our InfiniBand interconnect solutions will enable high-performance replication at a fraction of the cost by bridging Logicworks’ back-end storage with their virtualised environment. We are pleased to be part of this collaboration, which will return value to the open source community as well as boost price/performance for enterprise cloud customers.
