The maker of tactile feedback technology for mice and joysticks successfully sued both Sony and Microsoft in 2002 for patent infringement. Even though both suits were settled, Microsoft filed a separate suit against Immersion in June 2007 and asked the court to enforce a portion of a sublicensing agreement between the two companies that stated Microsoft would get a portion of Immersion’s settlement it received from Sony. Immersion countersued, alleging Microsoft had breached a confidentiality agreement.
Clent Richardson, president and chief executive at Immersion, said: We are pleased to resolve our outstanding dispute with Microsoft and to put this litigation behind us. We now have our full attention and focus devoted to working with innovative companies around the world, including Microsoft, to accelerate and rapidly achieve global adoption of our haptic technology in gaming, consumer electronics, mobility, and medical products.
