Huawei and Omlet have announced a collaboration to create an open social ecosystem on Huawei devices.
The Shenzhen-based networking and telecoms company will offer Omlet’s open social platform pre-installed on its upcoming Android devices, arriving later this year. Features will include photo sharing and messaging.
The collaboration with Huawei is another coup for the fledgling social network, who also announced at CES 2015 that smartphone and tablet provider ASUS will embed Omlet Chat as a native app on all units of ZenFone.
Founded in 2012 at Stanford University, Omlet claims to place users at the centre of their social platform instead of advertisers, promising them complete control over their data and privacy. It also aims to enable easier sharing of files between devices and operating systems.
"Omlet is a unique platform that fits with Huawei’s mission to creating the world’s best mobile experience," said Su Jie, Vice President of R&D, Huawei Consumer BG. "By creating more seamless and secure ways to share, Omlet helps create a more social, more connected experience on Huawei devices."
Monica Lam, Co-Founder of Omlet and Professor of Computer Science, Stanford University, commented: "Consumers will love how Omlet on Huawei smartphones will simplify sharing. Partnering with Huawei gives Omlet an opportunity to further expand the open social, privacy-enhancing ecosystem, the primary mission for all of us at Omlet."
