DataDirect Networks (DDN) is enabling Hualong Digital Film to facilitate collaborative, shared workflows by providing concurrent access to nine real-time, uncompressed 2K streams generated from eight DVS Clipster systems, a Thomson Spirit 2K DataCine for massive write-intensive, lightning fast data ingests, and many other post applications such as Autodesk Lustre, Smoke, Flame and Inferno, said DDN.

Coupled with its Dynamic Maid technology, the S2A9900 enables Hualong Digital Film to leverage an energy-efficient solution that spins down deep archival disks automatically when not in use, conserving over 60% on energy costs, added DDN.

The S2A9900 plays an integral role as part of Hualong Digital Film’s facility-wide workflow, enabling the company to process data faster than ever before as it sits in the center of its Post and DI operations.

According to DDN, its eighth generation S2A platform, the S2A9900, provides extreme performance and capacity, with the ability to manage 1.2 petabytes in only two floor tiles and deliver sustained throughput of up to 6Gbs per second for both writes and reads, per appliance – faster than any storage product in the industry today.

Paul Bloch, president and co-founder of DDN, said: We are honored to provide the data infrastructure solution for the most advanced digital post production environment in China. Hualong Digital Film’s extremely advanced post production facility necessitated a real-time storage solution that could support its bandwidth-intensive content streaming objectives to meet critical client project deadlines. With its unparalleled data ingest capabilities, the S2A9900 is the perfect high-speed data backbone for such a technically elegant and fast-paced post facility.
