HP has announced to set up a new organisation called HP Converged Systems to speed up development of next generation computing applications.

The new unit will have dedicated resources to provide purpose-built technology for social, cloud, mobile and big data applications.

HP Converged Systems unit will be led by senior vice president and general manager Tom Joyce, who was earlier vice president, Marketing, Strategy and Operations, Storage.

HP Enterprise Group executive vice president and general manager Dave Donatelli said that the company’s organisational updates are the next logical step as it accelerates the delivery of converged systems technology.

"HP was the first to announce Converged Infrastructure, which each major technology company has since followed," Donatelli added.

The unit will expand the range converged application appliances that combine infrastructure, applications and productivity tools into a single system, including the appliance systems for Apache Hadoop, HP Vertica, SAP HANA and HP CloudSystem.

Additionally, HP will integrate the HP Business Critical Systems (BCS) and the HP ISS under a single leader to speed up transformation of the server industry and drive it in growth path, HP said.

According to the FY2012 stated revenues, called HP Servers, the combination is expected to generate a revenue of $14bn.

The combined business will include HP Moonshot, HP ProLiant servers, HP BladeSystem and mission-critical computing with HP Integrity platform.
