A year after Google acquired social apps maker Slide in a $200m deal, the search engine company has announced that it will close down all but one of Slide’s social networking apps.
Two leaders, including its founder, Max Levchin, are also expected to leave Google.
Google said that it will shut down Slide and retire Slide’s apps in a few months, including Slideshow, SuperPoke! Pets, Video Inbox, and Pool Party.
Slide is a provider of social networking apps, such as tools, virtual goods and games, that are used on social networking sites.
Google acquired the company last year, but kept the Slide team away from development of Google+, its social network.
"We created products with the goal of providing a fun way for people to connect, communicate and share," reads the post on Slide’s blog.
"While we are incredibly grateful to our users and for all of the wonderful feedback over the years, many of these products are no longer as active or haven’t caught on as we originally hoped."
Google said that most of the employees of Slide would be asked to work on other Google projects such as YouTube.
However, head of product Jared Fischler is moving to Square, and founder Max Levchin is moving out as well.
"Max has decided to leave Slide and Google to pursue other opportunities, and we wish him the best," a Google spokesperson told AllThingsD.
"Most of the team from Slide will remain at Google to work on other opportunities."
