After unveiling ‘Android for Work’ back in June 2014, Google has launched the programme aimed at wooing businesses and expanding its reach into workplaces.
The programme for smartphones will allow employees to keep their professional and personal apps and data separate, and improve security and management features for companies that wish to provide Android smartphones to their employees, reported Reuters.
With the Android for Work app, companies will also be able to oversee key tools including email, contacts and calendar without intruding into users personal data.
According to Google, Android for Work’s key components include Work profiles, which allow the creation of a dedicated work profile that separates and protects work data.
The Android for Work app will also provide calendar, contacts, documents, browsing and access to approved work apps managed by IT in a secure manner.
Google has also introduced a separate Google Play for Work, which is designed to deploy and manage apps across all users with approval from IT.
It will also provide built-in productivity tools which facilitates exchange of documents with editing capabilities.
Google said that several partners including Box, Citrix, VMware, HTC, LG and Sony and BlackBerry have joined the initiative.
