Google has introduced the revamped version of its Maps web service, at the ongoing I/O developers conference in San Francisco.
Claimed to be redeveloped from the ground up, the version of Map service features new icons highlighting businesses running ads and promotions, which overlay the map.
The new version, which aims to personalise the product, has the ability to develop personal landmarks to offers users a ‘better idea of where a new place is located’.
Additionally, the new Google Maps incorporate 3D images, that are obtained by compiling images that have been uploaded to Google to develop a full inside view of places.
Google has also replaced its left-hand column with cards specific to a single location, as part of its efforts to simplify its user interface.
The tablet version of Google Maps comes with a new exploration feature that recommends places in multiple categories based on users’ location and on earlier searches.
