There has been an increase of just 1% in the number of organisations using encryption to protect sensitive data in the past 14 months, numbers released by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd suggest.
After a poll of 120 IT managers, the company found that slightly more than half of all UK public and private sector organisations do not yet encrypt data stored on laptops, handheld devices and removable storage media.
Moves are afoot to improve on that position apparently, with data encryption technology being cited as the second-highest purchasing priority for respondents during 2009, after secure remote access systems.
