Druva, a provider of enterprise data backup and retrieval, has released a new option for its backup and file sharing platform to help users who do not want to move to the public cloud.
The new option, integrated with OpenStack’s open source cloud platform, allows users to build a private cloud behind their firewall that can be used for automated backup of mobile, desktop and tablet devices.
The new OpenStack-based version of inSync hopes to help IT departments cope with the growing amount of backup and file sharing data that has to be stored by businesses today.
Jaspreet Singh, CEO of Druva, said: "Backup and file sharing account for the lion’s share of storage needs and continue to grow at a rapid pace. The problem is that on-premise storage has not kept pace with public cloud architectures for cost, scale and availability.
"That has left enterprises that need to host their IT infrastructure behind the firewall for security and compliance purposes using older storage strategies that are both inefficient and expensive."
Other capabilities allow users to easily scale storage capacity and deploy inSync on commodity hardware, while files can be written to multiple disk drives and replicated to other locations.
The platform can also be deployed on-premises, in a public cloud or as a proprietary private cloud.
