E-commerce offerings provider Digital River has engineered and launched a new, high-capacity e-commerce offering that can capture in excess of 6,000 online orders per second on a global basis.
The new offering is built to handle sudden spikes in traffic and large-volume order and the high-performance offering is ideal for managing the increased order demands associated with hotly anticipated merchandising events, door buster discounts, and preorder sales or releases of digital titles and physical products, including massively multiplayer online games (MMO) and collectible items.
The high-capacity order solution places online shoppers in a virtual checkout line to capture their orders to streamline and regulate the online order process for on-demand software and game titles as well as consumer electronics products.
After receiving the orders, the system then processes the purchase and payment on a first-come, first-served basis and when the purchase has been completed successfully, a notification, and if required a digital license key, is sent to the consumer.
Digital River CEO Joel Ronning said for many consumers the online order experience for high-demand items historically has been fraught with system unavailability, frustration and an inability to place orders.
"We’ve worked closely with our clients to deliver a solution that significantly upgrades the online order process and end-user experience. In the meantime, we have managed record-setting product launches for our clients – while our technology has worked behind the scenes capturing not only product orders and sales but also the excitement of many brand enthusiasts," said Ronning.
