Barnes & Noble has collaborated with Google to incorporate its services into its new Nook tablets, as part of its efforts to reignite customer interest in its Nook.

As part of the collaboration, Barnes & Noble’s Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets will be installed with Google Play online app store, in addition to integration of Gmail, Chrome Web browser, YouTube, Google Search and Google Maps features.

The move would allow owners of the latest Nook devices to access the Google services with software updates that enables access to about 700,000 Android apps and games, compared to the currently available 10,000 options in Barnes & Noble’s application store.

Barnes & Noble chief executive officer William Lynch said the addition of Google Play to Nook HD and NOOK HD+ allows offering customers even more great entertainment on tablets.

"Now with access to more than 700,000 apps and the best reading experience available, both are must-see products for entertainment lovers looking for high-quality tablets at incredibly low prices," Lynch said.

The existing and new Nook tablet users in the UK will be offered Google’s services for free via an automatic over-the-air update upon the device being connected to Wi-Fi.
