The UK government is considering proposals to block credit card payments to websites without age verification controls that allow children to access pornography.
The proposals are part of plans by the government to reduce legal pornography being accessed by those under the age of 18.
The UK financial organisations and video services regulator the Authority for Television on Demand (Atvod) are expected to discuss the proposal in October 2013.
UK Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice Damian Green said that the government supports the work that Atvod has undertaken.
"This will explore with UK financial institutions and card companies the possibility of declining to process payments to websites operating outside the European Union which allow under-18s in the UK to view explicit pornographic content," Green said.
In July, UK Prime Minister David Cameron revealed that the UK would mandate all the Internet services providers to automatically chunk access to online pornography sites except for subscribers who choose to receive it.
Cameron has also urged Google and other search engine firms to do more work to prevent child pornography.
Other efforts include a new code of conduct, which would prohibit viewing pornography via WiFi at public areas including cafes and railway stations.
