Smartcard companies, Ordacard of Israel and Ambient of the US have announced their intention to merge. Both companies are engaged in smartcard development projects, and the merger will combine Ambient’s technology with Ordacard’s production know-how, as well as giving Ordacard access to the US market, according to Eli Gerber, Ordacard’s president and general manager. Ordacard expects sales of $10m this year and is involved in a project that has developed a healthcare payment card that incorporates emergency medical information. Ambient develops cards that have large memory stores for identification and security applications. It carries out development work in Israel and trades on the Nasdaq exchange at a company value of $25m.
