Unisys Defense Systems Inc, based in McLean, Virginia, and soon to be floated as a free-standing company, says its Space Systems Division has been chosen as a member of the contractor team chosen by the Johnson Space Center to modify, operate and maintain a computer system used in Space Shuttle pre-flight evaluations: the total value of the contract is $18.7m and Unisys Defense Systems is contracted to supply IBM Corp with software for an information management system that the Space Center uses to assess the operational readiness of Shuttle-flight systems; it will assist with systems integration, software engineering enhancements and modifications, and operations of the Programme Compliance Assurance and Status System, developed by IBM.
