Shiva Corp, Cambridge, Massachusetts has announced LanRover/T for NetWare, claimed to be the first remote networking server for enterprise-wide, mission-critical Token Ring networks. Available in four- and eight-port versions, LanRover/T for NetWare is a multi-line remote network server providing dial-in networking for remote NetWare and Windows users that want to access all the resources on the corporate Token Ring network. LanRover/T provides up to 100 dial-in lines in a two-foot-high rack. Each serial port can be connected to a 14,400 Hayes or CCITT-compatible modem via a four or eight DB-25, RS-232 DTE connector, and supports speeds up to 64Kbps. It connects directly to the Token Ring network using T1 cabling with a DB-9 connector and supports data transfer rates of 4Mbps or 16Mbps and maximum packet sizes of 4Kb. LanRover/T also includes Shiva Net Manager software, which enables users to configure and monitor multiple LanRover/T units over the network. Shiva Activity Logger shows status information which can be saved to a log for later analysis. LanRover/T also supports device management based on Simple Network Management protocol over IPX. Available next month, the four-port version is $2,800 and the eight-port version will be $3,900.
