The Sharp Electronics Corp US unit of Sharp Corp has introduced the Wizard Pocket Communicator that enables users to create and send faxes, transmit and receive modem messages, and connect to on-line services through any standard phone jack. The communicator combines the pen-based, touch-screen Wizard personal information organiser with the new CE-FM4 Fax/Modem. The built-in modem software also enables users to communicate with remote computers. The machines uses the Sharp Proprietary Wizard chip, but the firm won’t say whether it is 8- or 16-bits. The communicator provides both ASCII TTY and VT100 emulations, for exchange of data and mail via CompuServe. The OZ-9520 Wizard, with 512Kb RAM measures 6.1 by 3.8 by 0.9 and weighs 10.5 ounces with two AAA batteries that will power it for 70 hours. The OZ-952OFX is priced at $750.
