RCI provides systems engineering, strategic consulting and HR-focused business process management to the US Army and Navy. The company has forecast revenues of $289m in 2004, and ranks as one of the 100 biggest suppliers to the US Department of Defense, the biggest single investor in IT worldwide. Under the terms of the purchase, Serco will take responsibility for 3,500 RCI employees.
Serco’s corporate communications director Dominic Cheetham told ComputerWire that the company has also completed its acquisition of IT outsourcing vendor ITNet Plc. ITNet provides infrastructure management services to UK local government agencies, as well as to overseas clients.
Both deals significantly enhance Serco’s capabilities in the business process outsourcing (BPO) market. Serco currently has a number of BPO contracts, with clients including the immigration service, but prior to these two acquisitions it lacked a standard BPO product.
