Sanyo Co is to join the book-size laptop fray with an AX-standard macchine weighing between 5 lbs and 7 lbs and using either an 80386SX or 80286 microprocessor to outperform the 80C86 used in the Toshiba Corp Dynabook, or the V30 that NEC Corp uses in its rival product, and will also be smaller and lighter than current products: Sanyo was always planning an AT-compatible AX-standard desktop machine this year, and is already offering the booksize machine OEM, but this will be the first offering under its own name; the other contenders already in the market comprise Seiko Epson Co, IBM Japan and Ricoh Co.
