Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) and Sprint have introduced a new messaging device that features a full-QWERTY slide-out keyboard, touchscreen and a customisable menu system that provides instant access to favourite features and applications.

The new device comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, expandable memory with microSD card (supports up to 32GB), Sprint Family Locator and offers messaging features including threaded text messaging, picture messaging, instant messaging and quick shortcuts to popular social networking applications.

The Samsung Seek, which comes in three colour options, allows users to listen to songs while surfing the web, playing games or checking e-mail.

In addition, Samsung and Sprint trial a new recycling plan that enables customers to reuse the packaging to ship old wireless phones, batteries, accessories and data cards with a postage-paid paper mailing label. Customers who purchase the blue or pink handset can use the label and box to repackage their old equipment for recycling at no charge. Sprint will recycle both the equipment and the box.

The companies said that the Samsung Seek packaging includes a box and inner tray that contain at least 90% post-consumer waste (PCW) paper fiber, are100% recyclable, and come from sustainable forests.

Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile, said: “Samsung Seek offers Sprint customers the best messaging features and multimedia favorites in a compact and stylish design. Seek provides easy customization and quick access to favorite applications and functions, and features prepaid recyclable packaging that makes mailing your old mobile phone to be recycled simple and convenient.”

Samsung Seek is now available in Cool Blue and Scarlet Red for $29.99 with a new two-year service agreement, after a $50 mail-in rebate (taxes and surcharges excluded). It is expected to be available in Fantasy Pink starting June 6, 2010.
