TV maker Samsung Electronics is in last-stage talks with Google to launch a television using Google’s software platform next year, according to the head of Samsung’s TV unit.

However, Yoon Boo-keun, president of Samsung’s visual display division, added that Samsung would not be unveiling the new TV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

Samsung, the world’s top flat-screen TV maker, has been planning to make a television set running on the search engine company’s software platform since early this year. Google TV will allow users to surf the internet on their TVs and check emails besides adding other apps available on computers.

Samsung intends to launch TVs featuring next-generation OLED displays at the CES in Las Vegas, Yoon added. In addition, he expects the global flat-panel TV market to improve by nearly 10% next year, the economic uncertainty notwithstanding.
