Samsung has wasted little time in improving on its flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone by announcing an updated and improved version of the device.

The new device is catchily named the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A, due to its support for the superfast LTE-Advanced networks currently on offer in South Korea, which offer download speeds of up to 225Mbps.

The supercharged version of the Galaxy S5 also features impressively boosted specifications, making it one of the most powerful devices available on the market today.

Instead of one of Samsung’s in-house Exynos processors, the new device is powered by Qualcomm’s most powerful processor, the Snapdragon 805, capable of running at 2.5Ghz across its four cores, the S5 LTE-A also features 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The device also features an impressively updated a QHD 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen display with a 2,560×1,440-pixel resolution, giving it a pixel count of 576ppi, a significant upgrade from the original S5’s 538ppi.

Asides from these updated specs, the new device remains fairly similar to the original Galaxy S5, running the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat and keeping the same 16MP rear camera along with device-specific software such as Ultra Power Saving Mode, Kids Mode, and Download Booster.

Since going on sale in the UK in April, the original Galaxy S5 has proved extremely popular with consumers, and according to Samsung sold 10 million devices in its first 25 days on sale.

A supercharged version of the Galaxy S5 for Western markets, rumoured to be called the Galaxy F or S5 Prime, had been rumoured for some time, as Samsung has a proven past record of updating its devices across product lines. It announced an LTE-A version of its Galaxy S4 device featuring slightly upgraded specifications a few months after the initial release last year, initially in Korea, before being released worldwide last October.

Similarly, at the moment it seems as though the S5 LTE-A will only be available in South Korea, with Samsung announcing the launch of the device in partnership with native operator SK Telecom, whose customers will be able to get a special ‘Glam Red’ version.

The device will go on sale on June 19 for the princely sum of 940,500 KRW, which equates to around £540 or $920.
