The purchase allows SafeNet, already a big player selling VPN technologies to OEMs including Cisco Systems Inc [CSCO], to expand its business still further, with 25 employees will be transferring to SafeNet.
The two companies have a history of working together. In March, they announced they were cooperating to sell SSH’s QuickSec Toolkit for Access Networks, which developers use to enable IPSec, alongside SafeNet’s SafeXcel chips, which accelerate IPSec
SSH said its OEM business was profitable, making revenue of E3.3 million in the first half of the year, about 42.6% of SSH’s revenue. SafeNet therefore expects the deal to add to earnings. SSH said the price paid will make it profitable this year, but that revenue will be less than the $18 million it had expected.
