S1, which provides CRM applications for financial institutions, said it plans to give Linux a more prominent role in its company’s solutions following a trend within financial institutions whereby Linux is taking on a more significant role because of its ability to fit with their hybrid computing environments.
The company has not released details but said it plans to work closely with partners to accelerate its Linux development. While Linux has been gaining acceptance in the back office, the movement to apply it in the front office is a much more recent trend. S1 currently uses several versions of Linux in its federally audited Global Data Center, including support of a web server environment.
The company’s recently announced acquisition of Mosaic Software will help accelerate its Linux initiative because Mosaic already has Linux expertise and is planning to implement the Linux-based version of the Postilion product at a US-based bank in January 2005.
