Rockwell International Corp reports from Newport Beach, California that in a continuing effort to globalise its telecommunications business, it has opened the Russian Telecommunications Technical Design Centre in Moscow. The centre is one of several Rockwell facilities, including other technical centres, established to enhance the company’s competitive position in the Commonwealth of Independent States and create additional jobs back home in the US. Rockwell will establish and maintain the centre in conjunction with Gambit Automated Design Inc, a Santa Clara, California company with a Russian subsidiary. The centre is expected to be fully operational by summer, employing 12 Russian engineers involved in algorithm and signal processing design and related software development. The first group of engineers will initially focus on software development for Rockwell’s advanced communications engines, and future plans call for additional engineers to develop digital and analogue device designs and automatic call director software. The company says it may grow to more than 50 engineers within the year. Housed in a 10,000-square-foot facility in Moscow, the Russian Technical Design Centre is under the direction of Professor Vyacheslav Loshakov, who holds a doctorate in mathematics and computer science from the Moscow Institute of Energy.
