With more than 9,000 employees in China, and with revenue in excess of $1 Billion US dollars, ZTE is a pioneer and a leader in the Chinese telecommunications market. Under the terms of the alliance, ZTE will resell Riverstone Networks RS family of routers throughout China to provide IP based metro area networks, broadband networks and data center solutions.
The Chinese broadband infrastructure market is growing very rapidly. This alliance positions Riverstone to be a leader, and ensures ZTE best of breed solution for their large customer base, said Sam Alunni, President at Sterling Research.
Using the Riverstone RS family of routers, ZTE plans to build solutions that alleviate congestion caused by heavy Internet traffic and network access bottlenecks. Due to the rapid growth of Internet business and other data services in the People’s Republic of China, telecom operators are investing heavily in IP/Ethernet-based broadband Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) in order to set up multi-service telecommunications infrastructures that are cost effective to deploy and easy to operate.
We believe that our strategic relationship with Riverstone Networks will allow us to rapidly enter the Chinese broadband Internet market with superior products, said Yuan Quan, Ph.D., Director System Integration Department of ZTE. Riverstone’s products will help us build next generation networks able to support advanced applications and profitable services that increase revenue and reduce customer turnover. Combining our leading position in the market with Riverstone’s leading technology creates a compelling opportunity for both ZTE and Riverstone in China.
